Background

SANDOW Companies has acquired ARCHITONIC, a global digital platform for architects and design professionals, as part of its ongoing expansion in the design media space. The platform was acquired from DAAily Platforms, the parent company of ArchDaily and designboom.

The deal comes shortly after SANDOW’s purchase of Canadian design magazine Azure, marking another step in the company’s strategy to build connected platforms that serve the global architecture and design industry.

ARCHITONIC is well known for its worldwide network of architects, planners, and interior designers. Under SANDOW’s ownership, the platform aims to speed up growth, strengthen its premium offerings, and expand access to digital tools and services. The acquisition also creates new opportunities for collaboration across SANDOW’s portfolio, including Material Bank, its materials sampling marketplace.

SANDOW founder and CEO Adam I. Sandow said ARCHITONIC is a trusted and respected brand in the design world. He said the acquisition supports SANDOW’s goal of creating better-connected platforms that help design professionals work more efficiently and creatively.

DAAily Platforms CEO Martin Zelger said the sale will allow his company to sharpen its focus on its editorial brands, ArchDaily and designboom.

To lead the next phase of growth, Patrick Loechle has been appointed CEO of ARCHITONIC. He said the move gives the platform strong backing from an owner who understands the design industry and values quality over scale.

ARCHITONIC’s editor-in-chief, Simon Keane-Cowell, will continue in his role. He said the partnership supports the platform’s commitment to strong editorial standards and opens new opportunities for innovation and collaboration across the architecture and design community.
