Background:
In Chelsea, London, designer Greg Natale has transformed a four-bedroom Victorian townhouse, blending the different tastes of a couple and their two teenage daughters. The woman prefers traditional décor, while her husband likes a modern, sleek style, a challenge Natale approached with skill.
Earlier renovations had left the house with a confusing layout. Natale moved the kitchen under a skylight, creating a bright, central space for the family. The basement became the husband’s retreat, with a home office, theatre, and wine cellar. The first floor was made into a private suite for the parents, and the second floor was designed for the daughters.
The designer found common ground for the couple in their shared love of luxurious materials, including marble, brass, and bespoke joinery. “These elements became the foundation for a home that feels glamorous yet grounded,” Natale says. His own marble tile collection for Teranova provides continuity throughout the home, from the entrance hall to the bathrooms and wine cellar, adding playful geometric touches.
Greg Natale took inspiration from London, adding the city’s quirky charm to the home and drawing ideas from places like Annabel’s members’ club. The design uses lighting, colors, and textures to make every room feel inviting.
Colors and materials are important. Soft pinks, lilacs, yellows, and blues are balanced with grey rugs and furniture. Norwegian Rose marble is used for fireplaces and bathrooms, while Crema Evora marble brightens the kitchen. Even the bathtub and ceiling were painted pink to match.
The basement has a cozier vibe, with merlot-red walls and a glass wine cellar, while Prisma marble tiles tie it to the rest of the home.
By combining whimsy, glamour, and modern style, Natale created a home that reflects both owners’ personalities. The result is a layered, personal, and stylish residence, a great example of contemporary design meeting timeless elegance.
