Background:
Halcyon Interiors updated a 1920s Wimbledon kitchen into a calm and modern family space. The home makeover was led by owners Caitlin McCann and Bradley Ridge. The old kitchen was small, dark, and not very useful. They wanted to create a larger, brighter, and better-designed space that flowed naturally into the new open-plan extension. Having previously collaborated with McCann, Halcyon Interiors was tasked with designing a kitchen that was calm, contemporary, and beautifully detailed.
To introduce softness and visual cohesion, the design team used bespoke slim-profile cabinetry finished in a matte tone closely matched to the wall colour. The kitchen cabinetry was designed to reach the ceiling, helping the room feel taller and giving the space a smooth, uncluttered look. A balanced layout along the back wall set the scene for a striking stone island placed in the center of the room.
The island, made from honed Venaria Reale quartzite, is the main feature of the kitchen. Its rich natural pattern adds warmth, while the same stone is used for the work surface and a sleek display shelf. An undermount sink is built into the surface, keeping the design clean and seamless.
Practicality was also a major focus. Details like the neatly angled cupboard edges and the matching thickness of the shelves and worktops highlight the careful attention given to the design.
The final kitchen is just what the homeowners wanted, modern, calm, and well thought out. Halcyon Interiors set out to create a space that looked beautiful while working smoothly for family life, and they succeeded.
