A historic Jacobean farmhouse in the Cotswolds has been transformed into a cosy, festive home with warm colours and natural décor.

Owner Hollie Mooreland, creative director and lighting designer at David Hunt Lighting, guided the renovations with a clear vision. “The house had a very cold and soulless feel,” she said. “I wanted to bring back the traditional country-home style and create spaces that feel welcoming and joyful.” She began by addressing essential infrastructure, including replastering walls and updating electrics, before introducing a warm, layered aesthetic.

The living room has become the heart of the home, featuring Dickens wall lights, orange velvet chairs, and an open yet cosy layout around the inglenook fireplace. In the kitchen, nearly 35-year-old cabinetry was refreshed with understated tones of Benjamin Moore’s Rodeo, while natural oak worktops replaced dark lacquered surfaces.

Christmas décor throughout the house leans on natural elements such as garlands of fir, ivy, eucalyptus, and holly, harmonising with the home’s colour palette. Paper stars in the windows and framed chinoiserie panels add a playful, festive feel. Hollie also used Colefax & Fowler wallpapers to bring back the traditional country style she loves.

From the panelled guest bathroom to the fun details in the children’s playroom, each room blends the home’s historic charm with modern comfort. Hollie says her goal was to create a home that feels welcoming all year, especially at Christmas.
