A West Sussex mansion has been recognised as one of the country’s most stylish residences after winning a prestigious design award. The mansion won the South East regional award at the 2025 British Institute of Interior Design (BIID) Interior Design Awards.
The project was led by Studio 9 Design, a Brighton-based firm, which turned the mansion into a “warm and modern family home.” The design aimed to make the house feel less large and to bring more natural light into darker areas at the back.
Studio 9 Design managed the architecture and interiors, creating a calm, welcoming home with antiques and custom touches. Judges praised how it kept the historic character while improving function and eco-friendliness.
The project stood out for “balancing restoration with contemporary living needs, demonstrating a clear respect for both the building and its natural surroundings.”
The BIID revealed the 2025 winners at a ceremony held on Thursday, October 23, at Drapers’ Hall in London. Hosted by presenter Angela Scanlon, the event brought together around 200 leading design professionals to celebrate excellence in interior design. Winners were recognised across eight regional categories, along with the newly introduced international category and the Anna Whitehead Prize for Sustainability.
Founded in 1965, the British Institute of Interior Design remains the UK’s only professional institute for interior designers, promoting innovation, quality, and sustainability across the industry.
