Key Background:
Svenskt Tenn, the Swedish design brand, is marking 101 years with the exhibition ‘Svenskt Tenn on a Small Scale’ at its Stockholm store until October 19, 2025. The miniature room settings used in the show draw from a hundred years of Swedish interior design and offer an exciting experience for design enthusiasts and other visitors alike.
The nine mini dioramas were first made for Svenskt Tenn’s 2024 retrospective at Liljevalchs Gallery in Stockholm and have been brought together again for this exhibition. They showcase important moments in the company’s history, from early international shows in Paris and San Francisco to famous in-store displays on Strandvägen 5. Each model is made by Stockholm-based Ray Atelier, a studio that specializes in precise model-making, keeping the same level of craftsmanship as the original exhibitions.
“Just as the original exhibitions were designed to present innovative furniture, textiles, and interiors, it was important that these miniatures reflect the same attention to detail,” says Tora Grape, head of marketing at Svenskt Tenn. She adds that the exhibition underscores how Svenskt Tenn has shaped both Swedish and international design over the past century, while highlighting the continuity and innovation that remain part of the company’s aesthetic today.
The miniature interiors, created in scales of 1:5 and 1:8, faithfully reproduce fabrics, wallpapers, and furnishings from the original displays. Visitors can see key moments from Svenskt Tenn’s history, such as the 1934 Liljevalchs exhibition showing Estrid Ericson’s work with architect Josef Frank, the 1937 Paris World’s Fair terrace furniture, the 1939 Golden Gate Exposition in San Francisco, and more recent displays like the 2017 Black Exhibition and 2022’s Frankly Yours by India Mahdavi.
Together with the miniatures, the Interview Design Studio of Svenskt Tenn has designed two contemporary room arrangements that demonstrate how the vintage outlook of Ericson and Frank continues to influence modern interiors. The exhibition gives visitors a unique chance to experience both the history and lasting influence of Svenskt Tenn’s design in a charming, small-scale format.
