Designing her own home gave Aljoaib a chance to bring her personal vision to life. “It is the purest expression of how I think, live and see,” she explains. Located in a quiet Riyadh neighbourhood, the townhouse responds to the shifting desert light, which Aljoaib describes as “sharp in the morning, golden by evening.” This natural rhythm informed both the home’s aesthetic and the atmosphere she sought: composed, soulful, and welcoming.
The design process began with a mood rather than a strict plan. A large 20th-century Japanese byōbu screen became the first focal point, shaping the home’s visual narrative. Aljoaib curated the space intuitively, letting each piece, collected over time and often tied to memory, find its place naturally. “Nothing was overly planned,” she says. “The pieces guided themselves, according to feeling.”
A central feature of the home is its balance of eras. Vintage objects, chosen for their history and character, coexist with clean-lined contemporary furniture, creating spaces that are both grounded and refined.
