Background:
Nearly a year after a devastating wildfire swept through parts of Altadena, actor and singer Mandy Moore and her husband, musician Taylor Goldsmith, have returned to their restored Spanish Colonial Revival home, marking an emotional new chapter for their family.
The couple had spent years transforming the 1931 property into their dream home. What began as a spontaneous visit in 2020 soon turned into a full-scale renovation project. They worked with their architect and designers to turn the old house into a warm family home. The arched doorways, plaster walls, bold tiles, and carefully chosen décor gave the house both style and character.
By late 2023, Moore and Goldsmith had moved in with their three young children and were enjoying the friendly, close-knit feel of their foothill community. However, their happiness was disrupted when a fast-moving fire forced them to evacuate. Battling strong winds and falling debris, the family fled with their children and pets, uncertain of what they would return to.
The main house was still standing, but the fire destroyed their music studio and the ADU. Smoke filled the home, making it unsafe to live in. Most of their furniture, clothes, and personal items had to be thrown away. In the months after, the team repaired the damage, replaced lost items, and made the home safe again.
By September, Moore and Goldsmith were back. Rebuilding is still underway, including work on the new music studio, but the family is thankful to be back home. Their garden is blooming again, and neighbors are rebuilding their homes.
The difficult experience showed how strong the Altadena community is. Neighbors helped each other during the evacuation and recovery, showing care and support in a tough time.
For Moore and her family, the house is now more than just a well-designed home. It is now a symbol of strength and community.
