Al Ghurair Collection has launched Wedyan, a 46-storey luxury residential tower in Dubai, designed by world-renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. This is Kuma’s first project in the UAE, known for famous works such as the Japan National Stadium and the China Academy of Art’s Folk Art Museum.
Wedyan will include 149 residences, featuring three-, four-, and five-bedroom layouts, two full-floor penthouses, and a three-storey sky villa. The residences offer spacious outdoor areas, a second back-of-house kitchen for hosting catered dinners, and specialised glazing to protect artwork from UV rays. Selected homes also feature Japanese teahouse-inspired pavilions, which can be used for meditation or creative activities like recording music.
The tower’s name, Wedyan, means “valleys”. The architectural elements of the building take cues from the waves in the water and the flowing sand, creating layers that reflect the feel of the desert. The architecture combines Japanese style with the natural and cultural setting of Dubai.
Architect Kengo Kuma said the project aims to connect architecture, nature, and people. He used soft shapes and shadows to give the building a calm and elegant feel. He also said working with Al Ghurair Collection was a good experience, as both value strong design.
A representative from Al Ghurair Collection said the company’s goal is to create visionary projects with long-term value for residents and the community. Wedyan is expected to become a landmark in Dubai, offering luxury living combined with innovative design and cultural harmony.
